A Novel Idea: The Resolution

For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
1 John 5:4

Conflict in a great book rises and rises until the climax. Is there any way out for the hero? Somehow the hero overcomes despite tremendous adversity. The resolution of the story takes place when change occurs, loose ends are tied and the story concludes. The main character may achieve the desire or overcome her foe. She may fall short of the goal. She may decide she no longer wants what she set out to get. She may attain the goal at a much greater cost than imagined.

I like a story with a good ending, where wrongs are righted and villains are conquered.
I want my story to end well, too. John tells us that everyone born of God overcomes. That comforts and encourages me as I face life’s challenges.

Jesus overcame temptation by quoting the Word of God. He stayed connected to His Father through prayer. He submitted to God to the very end. Jesus told us to stand firm as he did in the face of adversity. Stand firm, and you will win life (Luke 21:19). Don’t we all want to win? To finish strong?

Evil may threaten to destroy us but we are told to overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). I don’t understand how that works but I don’t need to understand. I just have to trust in the truth of God’s word.

If we stand firm, rewards will come. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9).

Be strong and courageous, child of God! You can overcome through the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony (Revelation 12:11). Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes (Ephesians 6:10-11). Jesus won and we can, too!
