Our Ageless God

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God,
be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
1 Timothy 1:17

On my birthday one of my students asked me about how old I was. When I told him, he exclaimed, “Wow! I don’t even think I can count that high!” (To prove him wrong, we immediately did count “that high.”)

What if we were to ask God about his age? Now, that truly would be a number too high for any of us to count. The word infinity comes to mind.

Our God is ageless. He has always been and will always be. My little human mind cannot even fathom the vastness of Him. He has no beginning and no end.

One can see on tombstones when a person came onto this earth and when that same person left it. Many buildings have the date of their completed construction on them. I went to school from this date to that date.

Man measures time in years or ages or eras. But not God, He has always existed and always will. He existed for Adam and Eve, for Paul, for my grandmother, and He exists for me.

In times of weakness or depression or defeat – I look to my ageless God. In times of great happiness and joy – I praise this same God. I see His hand in my life daily.

And yet, my belief in His existence has no bearing on whether He exists or not. He exists in spite of me.

Fortunately for me, I do believe and I can participate with Him daily.

God, You are more than my mind can even begin to imagine. I marvel at the very mention of Your name.
