Waves of Doubt

But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
James 1:6

Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1

Last summer, my family and I took our first trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama. I was so excited to spend time out on the beach with my family. It was wonderful watching my girls squeal with delight at being on the beach for the first time. The water was blue and beautiful, the sand was white and soft, and the wind was warm like a hug. On the last day of our trip the weather changed and the winds were more intense. The red flags were flying as a warning not to go out into the water. The current would be too intense for swimming.

I remember my husband saying, “I want to get in the water one last time”.
I was worried about his decision. I would not take my eyes off of him as he slowly walked further and further out into the water. He would smile and wave as the waters crashed into him. In my moment of doubt, my husband was having the time of his life.

Even though I was on solid ground, I was the one being tossed around in my own worries. I needed to trust God was in control of the situation and remind myself that my husband had never given me any reason to question his judgment.

Dear Father,
I am so thankful that we serve a Mighty God. In our moments of doubt and worry help us remember you are there. Forgive us for not trusting in your provision and making our situation seem bigger than you.

In Jesus Name,
Amen

Charity O
