Precision

“In him the whole building is joined together to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together

to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”

Ephesians 2:21 & 22

I tried not to get bogged down by all the measurements and details as I read through Exodus. The children of Israel were in the midst of building the tabernacle. As I continued plodding through, I noticed the precision at which God gave all His instructions for how to build this tabernacle. It made me look at those verses differently and learn something about God.

In I Kings, God tells Solomon to build a more permanent temple for Him with just as precise directions as the tabernacle. God’s design for both included very specific and intentional details even down to the exact measurements. If these instructions were followed God promised to live with His people and not abandon them.

As I jumped to the New Testament and read through Ephesians, I noticed how God has exact instructions for me as well. God wants to build me into a dwelling for the Holy Spirit. As a Christian His design for me is just as intricate and intentional. God has just as much interest in putting me together as a place for His Spirit to live as He did in the building of His dwellings back in the Old Testament.

I cannot help but marvel at the interest God has for each one of his children. He is a big God with many under his wings and yet He cares for each one of us. His Word gives us specific instructions. He gives us the same opportunity to obey those instructions as He did Moses and Solomon. And, His promises hold true for us just as they did way back then in Biblical times.

What an amazing God to care so deeply about details.

God, thank you for allowing your believers to be dwellings of your Holy Spirit. Thank you for your precision in building us in your image.
