Speak Up! I Can't Hear You!: Psalm 78

We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He has done.
Psalm 78:3-4

I once had an interesting conversation with a woman. She had attended an event and while there was asked to share about her relationship with Jesus. This woman was irate. Her words to me were, “That is personal. It’s no one else’s business!”

The writer of Psalm 78 had a different view. He determined not to hide the mighty deeds of God, but to proclaim them to the next generation. Scripture teaches nothing of a ‘secret salvation.’ Jesus told His disciples: Whoever acknowledges Me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven(Matthew 10:32). In Acts 1:8 believers are commanded to be witnesses.
Two years ago my daughter and son-in-law told us they were expecting our first grandchild. That was some of the best news I have ever heard, and I began telling everyone I know with joy and excitement. As a believer, I have even greater news to share with others. I know the truth that Jesus is the way to eternal life and the source of every spiritual blessing.
Daily you and I encounter people who are seeking joy, satisfaction, and purpose in life. They are filled with questions about life now and life to come. We believers have the answers in Jesus and God’s Word. May we say like Paul: I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile (Romans 1:16).
We have the wonderful news that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Yet, how can a person call on Jesus if he has never heard of Him, and how can he hear about Jesus if you and I do not tell? (Romans 10:13-14) Who are you telling about Jesus? It’s time to speak up so others can hear and be saved!
