Fruit of the Spirit: Kindness and Goodness

But the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control.
Galatians 5:22-23

Kindness and goodness are two great qualities of the Fruit of the Spirit, ones that can make our world a better place. People, whether Christian or not, seem to have a difficult time showing kindness and goodness. We live in a self-centered world. Many feel entitled and put their needs ahead of others.

I have read where Christian people sometimes show the worst behavior in a restaurant. We can be the most impatient in grocery store lines, traffic situations, or waiting for service. Shame on us for not being kinder and willing to show goodness to others!
The word kindness means the quality or state of being kind; a kind deed; affection.  The word goodness means the beneficial quality of being kind. As we see they go hand in hand. When we exercise kindness we are also showing goodness. What a better world we would have with just a bit more kindness! There would be less stress for all and a feeling of accomplishment when we do as Jesus would do.
I actually think we utilize more energy being unkind than when we are kind. Furthermore, we feel worse about ourselves when we take control instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to control our actions. Kindness becomes a matter of obedience and a choice we must make if we follow the teachings of Jesus. The greatest act of kindness and goodness was given when Jesus died for us. How then can we not be kind to others?
Try to think of ways to be kind to others. Think less of your desires and more of satisfying the needs of others. Then kindness and goodness will permeate your life, and you will please the Savior.
Thank you Jesus for showing kindness and goodness when you gave your life to save us.
Sharon
