And if I go and prepare a place for you I will come back and
take you to be with me. John 14:3a
As
my mother aged, some of the common ailments of the elderly were evident. Her
general health was very good, but limited eye-sight and declining hearing
handicapped her activity. Family
visits eased the boredom and loneliness.
I
was able to visit her frequently, but no matter how often and how long our
visits were she was never quite ready for me to leave. My assurances that I
would be back gave her some comfort.
With
her quick humor, she dubbed me the “Be-Back”. That quickly became my moniker
and served as some comfort. She was okay knowing that her “Be-Back” would come
again soon.
A
bit of fun can ease a separation. It works with our little rescue dog. As we
leave the house, she frets. When we assure her that we will “be-back” it seems
to calm her. She goes to her lookout spot to wait.
If
assurance of a return is a comfort to an aging mom and a shelter mutt, what
comfort it is for us to know that our Savior will return. As believers in Jesus
Christ, His salvation and His promised return, His “be-back” is more than a
comfort. It’s a jumping up and down joy and excitement.
Just
think – He is coming back. He will take us to live eternally with Him. He is
the genuine be-back.
Will
He be coming for you? Do you have that joy and that hope? It can be yours.

Heavenly
Father, I thank you for the sacrifice that Jesus made. I live my life knowing that I will be
with You forever and forever in heaven. As the song says, “I Can Only Imagine”.
